The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon series will be written by Ning and is set 20 years after the events of the film. It will feature all-new characters carrying on the legacy of the original movie while exploring themes of love and revenge in a “martial-arts fantasy world.”
It won’t be an easy task for Ning to capture the same level of success as the original film; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won four. Not only that, but it also grossed over $213 million at the box office worldwide. It would be hard to imagine any series having such a lasting impact on viewers as this one did.
Directed by William Horberg
The new series will be executive produced by five-time Academy Award nominee William Horberg (Cold Mountain), who was a producer on Ang Lee’s version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In addition to writing Lucifer, Ning also worked on another comic book adaptation called Rat Queens which aired last year on Syfy. He’ll have his work cut out for him if he wants to recreate the same level of success as what we saw with Lee’s original film back in 2000.
Conclusion: We don’t yet know when or where this new series will air, but it’s sure to capture fans’ imaginations just like its predecessor did two decades ago. With Jason Ning at the helm and William Horberg executive producing, there’s no doubt that this new TV adaptation of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will deliver some spectacular martial arts action for fans old and new alike! Keep your eyes peeled for more news about this exciting project soon!
